Dream House Review

To start off I assumed this movie was like all those other movies out there where people move into their dream house and because it has a horrible past the current residents start to die. Then after seeing a trailer on xbox live looking at movies to rent I thought it was going to be like Shutter Island. So I was expecting nothing different, but I was sort of wrong. Although once I realized what was happening I figured it out. So was it a total bored...

Synopsis: After moving into their dream home the Atenton family find out that there maybe a horrible past that took place there. While trying to uncover the secret Will Atenton gets more than he bargains for and realized the dark truth.

Review: I won't give you more of a synopsis that that incase all you want to know if what the movie is about. Of course I won't give away too much about the movie in my review. I like to stay spoiler free unless it's a movie I know I won't see. This movie I was looking forward to it because I heard it was going to be different and actually scary... Stanley Kubrick's The Shinning was scarier than this movie. Yeah so if you hoped this movie would be a nice haunted house film look else where. It's a psychological thriller at best.

I'm not 100% sure what it is I was looking for, but what I saw was not it. It was just an okay movie. Interesting to watch and nice to just kind of enjoyed it. I think if I did not know of the Shutter Island twist I would have enjoyed it more. Overall, the movie was decent and the actors did a great job. Especially, the two little girls. I never know how young kids can be in movies like this.

So if you want to see a movie that might surprise you or just enjoy movies like this one then rent it. If not, just skip it.

What's to Come

I have been starting to get back to watching horror shows and movies. Here is what I plan on watching and reviewing here in the near future.

  • The rest of The Walking Dead Season 2. I have about 2 more episodes to watch.
  • Dream House
  • Game Reviews for Haunt and Rise of Nightmares for the Kincet on XBOX 360
  • The Cabin in the Woods

SAW Themed Cruise

Yep you are seeing that title correctly. There is a SAW themed cruise this summer... While I like the movies I am not sure I liked them enough to go on a cruise and... well I'm not 100% sure what is going to take place on this cruise. I'll post the links to the information out there, but all I see is mini golf, meet a few of the cast members... most of them the lesser known ones, free screenings of the movies and more... And rather than go anywhere fun the cruise leaves from New York and hits several Canadian stops where the film was filmed... When I think of cruises I think of Tropical places not going to more colder climates...  And yes some of the tickets has already sold out... Here's a link to the story on it http://geektyrant.com/news/2012/4/19/play-a-game-on-a-saw-themed-cruise-this-summer.html  and a link to a PDF that gives all the details on the cruise mostly about the ship and their fun activies that you do on EVERY cruise!!!!!  http://www.bocaratontravelgroups.com/images/SawatSea.pdf

What's next the Human Centipede themed cruise?! Oh wait please don't read this Tom Sixx I don't want to hear about you doing this to the poor people... unless it's a way to kill all the sickos who love your movies.

The Woman in Black Movie Review

What?! Harry Potter in a horror movie?! Yes, you have not gone to the Twilight Zone since the series has come to an end he has to move onto new movies. Here's my review for his latest movie The Woman in Black.

Synopsis: A young lawyer is sent to a remote village to settle the affairs of a house that is out of the way from civilization. This is his last chance to prove that he is not grieving from his wife's death and left alone to care after their son. When he arrives at this small town the local are not friendly and he gets more than he bargained for.

Review: For those of you who are familiar with Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter it will be a bit odd to see him playing an adult with a child. Regardless of his age his voice is still high pitched and I had some trouble with him being casted in this movie, but I think this is what happens when someone plays the role of an iconic character for so long. If you can get past that then you should enjoy the movie.

Now this movie is based on a Victorian gothic novel by Susan Hill, which from my research as written in the 1980s. Could have fooled me I thought it was published along the same time as Edgar Allan Poe's work. I have not read this book, nor am I familiar with it so I cannot say how the two compare.

Since this is a Victorian goth story and not a modern day horror story there is no gore and is more of a suspense and haunted house kind of movie. Which is not bad it is done very well. Now I was not scared watching this, but there were some scenes that gave me goose bumps. I cannot tell you the last time a movie has done that. Those scenes also might have made me jump if I was in the right setting ie watching this in the dark alone on a rainy night.

Some other random thoughts that popped in my head while watching this were:

  • The movie feels like I am watching a Masterpiece Theater production on PBS
  • In the nursery when all the toys are going off one of them makes the sound that I swear is Jigsaw from the Saw movies.
  • During the haunting scenes in the house Radcliffe does all the same things you would expect someone to do if they were in a haunted house.
I will say that after watching this movie I am still a little confused to why this woman was doing this to the children. I won't say what as to not spoil the movie. There was little back story, which would have been helpful. Radcliffe's character never really discovered much. It was more about his experience in the house.

I also tried to find some lore on what it means to see a woman wearing black. Now I am sure if you know even a little bit about ghosts or watch the show Supernatural then you have heard of a woman in white. I was wondering if there was something similar for a woman in black. I had no luck. I know that in those times woman would wear black if they were grieving the death of a love one. Which was very common, but I wanted to know if it symbolized something else. I wasn't able to find anything, but maybe someone out there knows.

So overall a very good movie with some minor plot holes. Also the ending was unexpected and sort of refreshing after all the crappy movies I have been watching lately.  If you like a good ghost story that might be a little lacking on details this is the one for you.

True Blood Season 5 Trailer

Season 5 Clip Trailer

I know there was a teaser trailer, which shows pretty much nothing so I was happy to see this one with actual scenes. Looks like as usual a lot of shit is going to go down. I am not sure what is happening since if any of this season is based on the books I am only on book 5 so I am a bit clueless. So hopefully this season has a lot of things to keep up entertained. I kind of accidentally became a fan of the show and books.

Though you have to wait until June to see what is going to happen.
