As Above, So Below

I am not sure why when I saw this trailer I was intrigue, but I was. I haven't been too fond of found documentary movies. They seem the lazy way of making a movie to me, but some do it right. So I added this one to my netflix queue and I finally got a chance to see it.

Synopsis:
  1. Archaeologist Scarlett Marlowe (Perdita Weeks) has devoted her whole life to finding one of history's greatest treasures: Flamel's Philosopher's Stone. According to legend, the artifact can grant eternal life and turn any metal into gold. When she learns that the stone is hidden underground in the Catacombs of Paris, she assembles a crew to guide and document her historic mission. As they begin their descent, the team-members have no way of knowing that they are entering their own personal hell.

    Review:

This movie is pretty interesting it combines legends, urban exploration, the supernatural and horror into one movie. I think it is done very well. Most movies in this subgenera seem to fall short, but not this one. I was engaged and felt like I was there with them. It is spooky and maybe because I'm not 100% sure, but I think I could be a bit claustrophobic based on how I feel looking at movies or images of small spaces in caves makes me uncomfortable.

You gett a sense of something is going on since each of the members of the party see things from their past that can't be real. There was the siren sound that is just as creepy as in other movies. It is something I already am dreading even thinking about going in a cave or something like that. The one thing that I will say that was annoying is when they started to see odd people and what not they kept the lights on and acted like they couldn't see them. I am not sure if it's just something that was over looked, but I thought it was weird.

Overall, it's a good movie and one that I think should be seen by anyone who likes a good story.

The Conjuring Review

I can easily proclaim that my first taste of horror was ghost stories. I vividly remember getting any book I could find on ghost stories as a child. It kept blossoming as I watched horror movies and other media on haunted places. Hell while in Boston I took a haunted ghost tour as well as in Tombstone. So it's a no brainer that I had to see this movie. I am vaguely familiar with the Warrens from all the ghost hunting shows I use to walk but I felt like it was never really put into much focus and this was my first taste at them.

Synopsis: In 1971, Carolyn and Roger Perron move their family into a dilapidated Rhode Island farm house and soon strange things start happening around it with escalating nightmarish terror. In desperation, Carolyn contacts the noted paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, to examine the house. What the Warrens discover is a whole area steeped in a satanic haunting that is now targeting the Perron family wherever they go. To stop this evil, the Warrens will have to call upon all their skills and spiritual strength to defeat this spectral menace at its source that threatens to destroy everyone involved. From IMDB

Review: I really enjoyed this movie. I was always kept at the edge of my seat wounding what was going to happen next. I thought the story was told well and never was dull. They thought on Annabell just a bit, which was probably why they did the movie on Annabell, which I will do later.

If you like a good ghost story with a little bit of possession then this movie is for you.
